It’s almost back to school!

First Day of School – Tuesday, September 7

We are back to school on Tuesday, September 7! Welcome to all of our new and returning students. We are very excited to start this next school year with you. We have a short first day, beginning at 9:05am and ending at 12:30pm. Buses do run three hours early. Mr. Brown will be available for in-person course changes on Thursday, September 2, by appointment ONLY. Please do not come into the school for course changes unless you have an appointment to do so.

Tours for New Students

We know that transitions can be challenging. For any students who are new to us, either entering Grade 9 or new to the community, we would like to invite you to come visit the school on Thursday, September 2. If you would like to take part in a tour, please contact the school to arrange a time slot. Available time slots are at 9:30am, 10:00am, 10:30am, or 11:00am. We do want to keep the groups fairly small, both for safety reasons and to allow new students to ask as many questions as they would like. You can contact the school by email ( or phone (250-546-3114).

COVID Safety

We are returning to school with some COVID safety restrictions in place. Once the District Safety Plan is complete, we will be sure to share that with you.

Vaccination Clinic at PVSS

Public Health will be holding a pop-up COVID Vaccination Clinic on September 24 for any students or staff who are not yet fully vaccinated. The clinic will take place in the courtyard, just outside the main entrance of the school. This clinic is for students and staff who choose to take part, and is meant to be a convenience for those who have been unable to attend other vaccination clinics.

School Supplies

We don’t have an official school supplies list for secondary school, but we suggest that students purchase the following supplies:

  • one good quality zipper style three ring binder that can hold at least two or three subjects with dividers
  • pens, pencils, pencil crayons or markers, erasers, a highlighter, and a pencil case
  • lined paper – probably three or four packages of 150-200

Some students also like to have a fineliner black marker and a few dry erase markers. We provide calculators in Math classes, but you may wish to purchase one for yourself. We suggest that if you do, you purchase the same style Texas Instruments scientific calculator (about $20 at Staples) that we supply so that when teachers are showing how to use the functions, students can follow along. Math teachers will provide this information.

While our gym was undergoing renovation last year, we discovered historical fire damage that was not adequately repaired. It was determined that the gym is not structurally sound and requires major renovation or possibly even replacement. We will be relying on community facilities this year to deliver our Physical and Health Education programs, and we will have a bus available for our use.

Student Gatherings Outside of School

We would like to remind families that at this time in the Interior Health Region, outdoor gatherings of more than 50 people are not permitted.
